Economic benefits of giving legal status to inmigrants
Sep. 17, 2021
The White House published a note about the economic benefits of extending permanent legal status to unauthorized inmigrants. Among the arguments in favor of the measure, permanent legal status is likely to increase the labor supply. Otherwise, certainly that measure has fiscal costs, but at the same time it represents more revenues and perspectives of greater economic growth.
"Further, the ensuing increase in wages and compliance with tax requirements would increase their contributions to public sector finances, and their children would benefit as well. Allowing currently unauthorized workers to engage fully in the labor force would not only benefit the immigrants and their families, but society as a whole."
